Exercise 6: Fruit Bowl Tutorial (Boolean method) and Fruit
This is the final render of the model I made, It was challenging to figure out how to do the textures for the oranges, grapefruit and strawberries, but I learned a lot. This was very time consuming but it was worth it in my opinion.
The banana was made by creating 3 NURBS circles; 2 of similar smaller sizes and one of a larger size (the one in the middle which is partially seen on this image above). I then selected all 3 circles and created a loft (polygonal) which I then renamed to banana and then selected the two end circles and moved and scaled to get the desired shape. To close the banana's ends I had to select their edges and select the fill hole tool under Mesh.
I duplicated the banana loft shape and rotated and moved it around. I then decided to smooth out the bowl as shown above.
These apples were made by creating a CV curve and then revolving around it. Afterwards I renamed the shape and edited a few CV's to make the indent on top of the fruit seen above. I duplicated the shape and positioned it as I liked.
Here's how I made the bowl
I used the Boolean method and created a NURBS sphere, I cut the sphere in half by selecting all edges above the center of the sphere and then I hit delete which left me with the shape shown above.I also decided to create a NURBS plane to use as a surface for my fruit bowl to sit on.
Then I duplicated the shape and scaled it down so it would rest in the bowl and would be used to make the bowl hollow like it is in this image. After lining up the scaled bowl inside of the original how I liked, I then I went to Mesh Booleans and used the difference option which created the inner lining of the bowl. I ended up smoothening the bowl later on.
Time for some fruits
The banana was made by creating 3 NURBS circles; 2 of similar smaller sizes and one of a larger size (the one in the middle which is partially seen on this image above). I then selected all 3 circles and created a loft (polygonal) which I then renamed to banana and then selected the two end circles and moved and scaled to get the desired shape. To close the banana's ends I had to select their edges and select the fill hole tool under Mesh. These apples were made by creating a CV curve and then revolving around it. Afterwards I renamed the shape and edited a few CV's to make the indent on top of the fruit seen above. I duplicated the shape and positioned it as I liked.
The oranges and grapefruit were made by using NURBS spheres and editing their CV's to get that indent on top and the strawberries were made using the same method of revolving around a curve, but the leaves were made by squashing and editing the CV's of NURBS spheres.
This is the hypsershade window with the strawberry material, it shows how I got the strawberry texture which took me a while to figure out through trial and error. The orange and grapefruit were done in a similar way. I also added a spotlight as you can see in the image above and below you can see how it renders out and affects the fruits and fruit bowl.
