Exercise 12: Arm and Hand Rig + Final Project Update
For this week's exercise, I decided to rig a simple hand made from NURBS cubes and Cylinders. For the Palm I manipulated some of the CV's of the cube to get a slightly more natural shape. In the image below you can see the skeleton before I created or attached the model.
This image shows that the joints for the thumb and fingers can be rotated and are attached to the model. This took some getting used to but it wasn't as bad as I initially thought it would be.
Final Project Update
For my final project I have decided to include my butterfly model and my dinner table scene. I plan to have the butterfly fly into the scene, land briefly onto an orange, and then take off again and fly off into the darkness. I will use 2 cameras to get 2 different angles, both will be animated and of course the butterfly's wings will flap too. I added some purple and light blue lights (spot lights) to give the scene some extra color.
This is my rough storyboard for the animation, I expect small details to be different such as the exact angles and distance the camera will be but overall it should generally follow this idea. Below I will show 1 frame (frame 57) from the current animation from both the camera's views (not fully rendered).

Your hand and arm rig has got lots of personality - you can pretty readily the character that it came from. The storyboard works well and shows what viewers could follow the storyline. The fruit bowl and table are terrific. You keep introducing on new elements, incrementally adding to your previous work - it's a great way to build up very complex, layered animation.
