Exercise 2: Complex NURBS model using primitive objects, components, transformations of objects and CVs, grouping (Maya)
For this exercise I thought that a flower would be a good idea to make and I am quite happy with the results I got. I used mostly primitive NURBS spheres and cylinders to create the flower. I grouped all the flower petals together and I used the CV's to manipulate the shape of the spheres I squashed with the scale tool to create the petal shapes. I also used this same technique to create the leaves of the flower. The stalks the leaves are connected to were created with cylinders that where scaled and then bend and manipulated with CV's. The stem is a cylinder that was also bent and tweaked with CV's. Below are the different perspective views.
Maya NURBS Modeling Resources
rustyanimator.com has some nice and free full-length tutorials on YouTube and offers more courses that you can pay for and has a blog as well as a podcast that would be useful to anyone getting into animating with Maya.
turbosquid.com has a lot of really cool models that are for free and that can be purchased, some of these models look really realistic and intricate while others seem more simple or stylized but are also pleasing to look at.
toolfarm.com also has tutorials on Maya, but it also has tutorials on other programs as well and sells interesting Maya plugins. Overall these are cool and useful websites that can prove to be helpful to me and to others just starting out with Maya and 3D animation.

Nice job on the flower. It's a good use of cv's and repetition and layering to build up a more complex model from basically simple forms.
