Final Project: Dinner Table and Butterfly Animation

Image
This is the rendered animation of my final project, I think it turned out nice, I'm pretty happy with it. As you can see there's camera animation and the butterfly's animation. All the models look nice together and the butterfly stands out well among the fruits due to its blue wings. This animation turned out pretty short and there's a few errors here and there (that are not too noticeable). In case the video won't play I've also included 1 frame from the animation from both cameras. The Setup     This is a screenshot showing the layout of the scene, you can see where the cameras, lights, and models are and how they are arranged. As the lighting suggests, the table, especially the fruit bowl at the center, are very important elements besides the butterfly which is in the darkness here since this was taken at frame 0.     Here you can se that the purple light is the one highlighted in the screenshot and in addition you can see the settings I ...

Exercise 12: Arm and Hand Rig + Final Project Update

Image
For this week's exercise, I decided to rig a  simple hand made from NURBS cubes and Cylinders. For the Palm I manipulated some of the CV's of the cube to get a slightly more natural shape. In the image below you can see the skeleton before I created or attached the model.      This image shows that the joints for the thumb and fingers can be rotated and are attached to the model. This took some getting used to but it wasn't as bad as I initially thought it would be. Final Project Update     For my final project I have decided to include my butterfly model and my dinner table scene. I plan to have the butterfly fly into the scene, land briefly onto an orange, and then take off again and fly off into the darkness. I will use 2 cameras to get 2 different angles, both will be animated and of course the butterfly's wings will flap too. I added some purple and light blue lights (spot lights) to give the scene some extra color. This ...

Exercise 11: LowMan Stairs Animation (Character Animation)

Image
If this video won't play here for some reason you can see it  Here  in a new window (It's 1080p hd there).           For this week's exercise I decided to use lowMan and to animate him walking up the stairs. I also included camera animation using a motion path to attach the camera to a curve. I am pretty happy with this, it took some time but it looks pretty good. I created everything else besides LowMan using NURBS Planes and NURBS Cubes. I also added lights but that will be shown better in the next part of the post. Animation/Scene Setup       Below I will include images which should provide enough information about the setup and placements of my lights, camera and curve. Animation     For the animation I moved various body parts but some of them were more subtle like the head movement and the slight leaning as he makes his way up the stairs. I also moved his arms so they would sway and I turned the hips so they w...

Class 10: Butterfly Animation

Image
For this week's assignment I made an animation of a butterfly flying. I used motion paths and curves to create the main movement of the model and camera. I am so happy to have figured out how to export the video from Maya. I like how this turned out.  Creating the Model     This model was made using NURBS spheres and cylinders and manipulating their CV's. I used reference photos of a butterfly from two different angles which I got from Pixabay here  and here . I started with the body, then went onto the head and legs. lastly I did the wings which were the most complicated for me as I ended up converting the shape to a polygon to use the UV editor to use the wing image I got from PngItem  here  which I also ended up converting one more time to animate. Below is an image of my progress and here you can also see how I had the references set up to use.     The curled mouth of the butterfly was made using a NURBS Torus that was modif...

Class 9 Cinematography Exercise: Updated Fruit Bowl and 3-Point Lighting

Image
For this week's assignment I decided to update my textures for most of my fruit in my fruit bowl model. I then set up a back wall and floor using NURBS planes and set up 3 spotlights to get some nice 3-point lighting with 1 acting as the main light, one the backlight, and the other a softer light. Only one light, the backlight, uses the default white color. I really like how this turned out and I plan to use this fruit bowl for my dinner table scene. I also have rendered images taken from 2 more angles below.     My goal for this assignment was to make a scene that would have some slight cool and warm tones, so the fruit bowl feels like it is in the same room as a fireplace or something else like that. I wanted the overall lighting to be softer and dimmer and I think I achieved the effect I wanted pretty well. I decided to update the textures and change the shader of  the oranges to make the fruit look more accurate. I will now describe what I did to get her...

Classmate Midterm Reviews

Everyone's projects were great and interesting but for this week's assignment I will look at  Tyler Getz's midterm project and Alex Lubeck's Midterm . Tyler Getz's Midterm This looks pretty cool, I like the animation that is there so far and the lily pads are nice. It would be nice to see some textures and to see the green frog get a face of some sort. The water would like really nice if it were textured and animated too, but depending on the look you are going for that may not be necessary, but ripples in the water would make sense. The character/frog animation can be improved by further exaggerating the squash and stretch. It may make it seem a bit more cartoonish if it is exaggerated a lot but it is already more abstract so I think it could work for this. Additionally, the animation can be improved by making the lily pads dip a bit down into the water from the impact of the frog landing on it. Alex Lubeck's Midterm  The snowmen models are cute, I like the w...

Midterm: Dinner table scene with camera animation

Image
I wanted to do a simple dinner table scene with a camera moving along the table. As you can see I reused the fruit bowl and teapot from the last exercises, this is one of the reasons I took so long working on the fruit bowl model. How the fruit bowl and teapot was made was explained in my other posts. For this project I just needed to add the dinner table, chairs, and plates. The plates were made by revolving around a curve and then adjusting it slightly, and the table and chairs are made up of several NURBS cubes. The chairs look pretty nice as does the table and fruit. I added some texture to the teapot and some to the plate too to create a better illusion of depth (they looked flatter without the gradient in the middle). I wanted some dramatic lighting so I have 1 spotlight and a soft ambient light so you can still see the silhouette of any chair further in the back as seen above and also to allow you to see the floor a bit better. I have camera animation but cou...
